The Department of Zoology at Dr. Ghanshyam Singh Mahavidyalaya, Soyepur, Varanasi is dedicated to imparting quality education in the field of life sciences. The department focuses on developing scientific understanding, practical knowledge, and research aptitude among students through effective teaching and laboratory-based learning. The academic activities of the department are conducted in accordance with NEP-2020 and UGC guidelines to ensure multidisciplinary and skill-oriented education.
Currently, the department caters to around 300 undergraduate students and 114 postgraduate students, reflecting its growing academic strength and popularity among students pursuing biological sciences. The department aims to provide students with a strong foundation in various branches of zoology including genetics, biotechnology, physiology, ecology, environmental biology, immunology, and molecular biology.
The department emphasizes both theoretical and practical learning to enhance the scientific temperament of students. Practical classes are regularly conducted to provide hands-on experience and to strengthen students’ understanding of biological concepts. The Zoology laboratory is equipped with microscopes, slides, charts, preserved specimens, models, and other essential instruments required for undergraduate and postgraduate practical training.
The faculty members of the department are committed to guiding students in academics, project work, and preparation for higher education and competitive examinations such as CSIR-NET and other research-oriented programmes. The department continuously strives to nurture disciplined, knowledgeable, and environmentally conscious individuals capable of contributing positively to society and scientific advancement.
